The Royal Thai Embassy, Seoul, Extends Seollal Korean New Year Greetings, with Thai mangoes In celebration of the Korean New Year, known as Seollal, the Royal Thai Embassy, Seoul, has sent Mahachanok mangoes, also referred to as Rainbow Mangoes, as New Year gifts to senior executives in both the public and private sectors as well as to members of civil society of the ROK. This initiative not only conveys festive greetings but also promotes Thai mangoes, increasing their awareness and popularity in the ROK during this holiday period. At present, the fresh Thai mangos can be bought at leading supermarkets in the ROK and mango jelly can be bought at GS25 nationwide. The Mahachanok mango, scientifically named Mangifera indica L., is a naturally crossbred variety between the Sunset and Nang Klang Wan mangoes. Its seeds were cultivated in Lamphun Province, northern Thailand. His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej (King Rama IX) graciously bestowed the name "Mahachanok Mango" upon this variety. The Mahachanok mango is characterized by its large, elongated shape and greenish-purple skin, which turns yellowish-red when it is ripe. It features thick, tender, and succulent flesh that emits a fragrance reminiscent of melon and offers a sweet yet slightly tangy taste.
