Thai Ambassador Pays His Respects at the Funeral Service for Former Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea On 30 January 2026, H.E. Mr. Tanee Sangrat, Ambassador of Thailand to the Republic of Korea, paid his respects at the funeral service for H.E. Mr. Lee Hae-chan, former Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea, who passed away on 25 January 2025, at the funeral hall of Seoul National University. Ambassador Tanee also met with Mr. Jung Chung-rae, Leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, Ms. Lee Jae-jung, Member of the National Assembly from the Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) and a member of the Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee. On this occasion, Ms. Lee Jae-jung expressed her sincere appreciation and gratitude to the Ambassador for attending the funeral service for the Late Prime Minister. They also exchanged views on the roles of the Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee, including cooperation with private sectors and international organisations, as well as collaboration in the areas of ODA and KOICA. Both sides also expressed their intention to meet again to discuss ways to further promote bilateral relations between the two countries. The former Prime Minister Lee Hae-chan had an audience with Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn during Her Royal Highness’s visit to the Republic of Korea in 2004.

On 12 March 2026, H.E. Mr. Tanee Sangrat, Ambassador of Thailand to the ROK, received 40 boxes of "MuekGroob", mala konjac jelly, from representatives of SUNSUSOLUTION COMPANY LIMITED, manufacturer of MuekGroob and GLOVERSE, the importer of MuekGroob into the Republic of Korea. These boxes of "MuekGroob" will be distributed by the Royal Thai Embassy to the Korean, Thai, and international communities residing in the Republic of Korea for free tasting as part of the Corporate Social Responsibility Programme.

On 9 March 2026, H.E. Mr. Tanee Sangrat, Ambassador of Thailand, met with The Hon. Kim Gunn, Member of the National Assembly and Vice Chairman of the Commitee on Foreign Affairs and Unification, to exchange views on the pathways to strengthen Thai-ROK cooperation, especially the exchange of visits and delegations between both countries' legislatures and cooperation on combatting transnational crime, and key developments on the Korean Peninsula and the global geopolitical environment. On this occasion, Ambassador Tanee extended an invitation to the National Assembly's Committee on Foreign Affairs and Unification to visit Thailand at an appropriate occasion in the future.

On 6 March 2026, H.E. Mr. Tanee Sangrat, Ambassador of Thailand to the ROK, together with Mr. Chawadol Nipathannont, Minister, and Mr. Krist Mekkriengkrai, Head of the Consular Section, held a meeting with the President of the Thai Student Association in the ROK and members of its committee to receive updates on the Association’s recent activities and to exchange views on its future directions.

On 25 February 2026, H.E. Mr. Tanee Sangrat, Ambassador of Thailand to the ROK, met with Mr. Pairat Petchyuan, Governor of Phang Nga Province, and relevant agencies at the Phang Nga Provincial Hall. Given Phang Nga's tourism potentials with its geographical strengths as a destination for relaxation and recreational activities, including pristine and beautiful beaches and nature, both sides agreed to work together to further promote Phang Nga among foreign tourists, including from the ROK, as a destination for wellness tourism for honeymoon couples, family vacation, and seniors. They also discussed exploring opportunities with airlines and tour operators to expand travel options to Phang Nga, such as launching direct flights and charter services on the South Korea-Krabi route, allowing onwards travel by car or bus to Phang Nga.

On 24 February 2026, H.E. Mr. Tanee Sangrat, Ambassador of Thailand to the ROK, met with Mr. Angkura Siladhewakul, Governor of Krabi Province, and relevant agencies at the Krabi Provincial Hall to discuss ways to promote trade, investment, and tourism cooperation between Thailand and the ROK. Both sides agreed to promote Krabi province, a tourist destination with beautiful natural scenery, among Korean tourists and discussed the possibility of launching direct flights and charter services on the South Korea-Krabi route. They also discussed cooperation on biomass energy, by utilising local agricultural waste materials such as rubber wood scraps, coconut shells, and palm bunches as materials for making eco-friendly clean energy, as well as promoting the use of Krabi palm oil as an ingredient in the South Korean cosmetics industry. Additionally, they discussed the possibility of establishing a sister city between Krabi Province and Busan, focusing on the creative economy sector, particularly in filming and movies.
