On 24 February 2026, H.E. Mr. Tanee Sangrat, Ambassador of Thailand to the ROK, met with Mr. Angkura Siladhewakul, Governor of Krabi Province, and relevant agencies at the Krabi Provincial Hall to discuss ways to promote trade, investment, and tourism cooperation between Thailand and the ROK. Both sides agreed to promote Krabi province, a tourist destination with beautiful natural scenery, among Korean tourists and discussed the possibility of launching direct flights and charter services on the South Korea-Krabi route. They also discussed cooperation on biomass energy, by utilising local agricultural waste materials such as rubber wood scraps, coconut shells, and palm bunches as materials for making eco-friendly clean energy, as well as promoting the use of Krabi palm oil as an ingredient in the South Korean cosmetics industry. Additionally, they discussed the possibility of establishing a sister city between Krabi Province and Busan, focusing on the creative economy sector, particularly in filming and movies.

Thai Ambassador Pays His Respects at the Funeral Service for Former Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea On 30 January 2026, H.E. Mr. Tanee Sangrat, Ambassador of Thailand to the Republic of Korea, paid his respects at the funeral service for H.E. Mr. Lee Hae-chan, former Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea, who passed away on 25 January 2025, at the funeral hall of Seoul National University. Ambassador Tanee also met with Mr. Jung Chung-rae, Leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, Ms. Lee Jae-jung, Member of the National Assembly from the Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) and a member of the Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee. On this occasion, Ms. Lee Jae-jung expressed her sincere appreciation and gratitude to the Ambassador for attending the funeral service for the Late Prime Minister. They also exchanged views on the roles of the Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee, including cooperation with private sectors and international organisations, as well as collaboration in the areas of ODA and KOICA. Both sides also expressed their intention to meet again to discuss ways to further promote bilateral relations between the two countries. The former Prime Minister Lee Hae-chan had an audience with Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn during Her Royal Highness’s visit to the Republic of Korea in 2004.

H.E. Mr. Tanee Sangrat, Ambassador of Thailand to the ROK, delivered congratulatory remarks at the Certificate Ceremony for the SNU–Thammasat WorldNexGen 2026 Programme on 5 February 2026 at Seoul National University. H.E. Chung Sye-kyun, former Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea, and H.E. Mr. Ahn Duk-geun, former Minister of Trade, Industry, and Energy, also attended the ceremony. The Ambassador, addressing former Prime Minister Chung's remarks on the current global situation, expressed his belief in the importance of preparing the next generation of leaders for three global scenarios: (1) a world with no global order, where all countries must defend their own interests; (2) a world divided into groups or regions, such as the European Union, ASEAN and its Asian partners, or other groupings; and (3) a world in which all countries work together, except for the strongest power (World-1). Ambassador Tanee commended SNU and Thammasat University on the successful organisation of the programme and underscored his confidence that the WorldNexGen 2026 programme would serve as a vital platform for development of the next generation of leaders, thinkers, and academics; strengthening academic and cultural ties; and enhance mutual understanding of Thailand and Korea’s financial and economic systems. In the context of increasing uncertainties in the international order, the Ambassador highlighted the programme’s role in cultivating globally-minded, cooperative, and resilient leaders, and in building long-term collaboration and a network of future leaders ready to address regional and global challenges. The WorldNexGen 2026 exchange programme included two weeks of activities in Thailand (7–17 January 2026) and one week in South Korea (1–7 February 2026). The programme featured lectures, seminars, company visits, and cultural exchange activities.

On 2 February 2026, H.E. Mr. Tanee Sangrat, Ambassador of Thailand to the ROK, and H.E. Georg Schmidt, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the ROK, had a meeting with Mr. Lee Mingeun, Mayor of Ansan City, to promote bilateral relations between Ansan City and Thailand and Germany, including people-to-people ties which serve as vital catalyst for expanding economic and cultural cooperation. Both Ambassadors and delegations visited the Ansan Free Economic Zone site, designated by the ROK government in September 2025 as a center for advanced industries, a global R&D base for advanced robotics and manufacturing, and a home to Hanyang University, the first university in the field of engineering, specialising in industry, technology, innovation, and research. In addition, Ambassadors had meeting with Ms. Park Gyeong Hye, Director-General of the Ansan Foreign Resident Support Headquarters, to discuss issues related to the services for and protection of foreign residents residing in Ansan and the role of the Ansan Foreign Resident Support Headquarters. Ambassador Tanee also share his thoughts on the possibility of organizing a Songkran festival and establishment of a Thai Town in Ansan.

On 2 February 2026, H.E. Mr. Tanee Sangrat, Ambassador of Thailand to the ROK, Mr. Rapiphat Chandarasrivongs, Director-General of the Department of Agriculture, and delegation had a meeting with Mr. Cho Sunyoung, President of KLES, to exchange views and experiences on solar farm development which is integrated with smart agriculture and explore opportunities for academic cooperation, research, and investment between Thailand and the ROK. KLES joined the Embassy’s investment mission to Thailand in 2024. KLES, founded in 2004, is a comprehensive research and engineering company that specialises in power plant facilities. In October 2025, KLES and ENVELOPS Co., Ltd. signed an MOU with the Faculty of Agriculture and the Energy Research and Development Institute-Nakornping, Chiang Mai University, to foster collaboration in agrovoltaics research by establishing the agrovoltaics demonstration plot and a vertical farm for cabbage cultivation and solar power production as a pilot project in the Chiang Mai University campus.
