On 21 June 2024, H.E. Mr. Tanee Sangrat, Ambassador of Thailand to the ROK, met with Mr. Kang Gi-jung, Mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City, to discuss expansion of cooperation in various dimensions between Thailand and Gwangju Metropolitan City, including supporting Thai and ROK start-ups; the development of key industries that employ high-technology and in which Gwangju has expertise, such as AI and Future Mobility; and promoting cultural and soft power exchanges in line with the IGNITE Thailand vision.

Ambassador thanked Gwangju Metropolitan City for taking care of Thai community and nationals in Gwangju and invited the Mayor and representatives of the city to visit the Embassy’s Sawasdee Seoul Thai Festival: T-Pop Story in October 2024 to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand-ROK.
