Ambassador Tanee proposes that the ROK expand employment for Thai workers and establish National Health Insurance Service for Thai and foreign workers

Today (12 August 2024) Ambassador Tanee and Labor Attache Sirirat Srichart joined the 20th Anniversary of Employment Permit System (EPS), Ministry of Labor and Employment of the Republic of Korea, chaired by H.E. Lee Jong Sik, Minister of Labor and Employment.

H.E. Mr. Jong attached importance to foreign workers’ rights, safety, health and well-being as the same as that of Korean workers, and established assistance centers for foreign workers all over the country.

The Ambassador also said that he focused on protection and promotion of Thai workers and proposed that (1) fields of employment for Thai workers be expanded to include forestry, mining, and housekeeping and (2) the National Health Insurance Service be set up for Thai and foreign workers.

Former foreign workers have been invited to share their experiences of working in the ROK including Mr. Suchin Rodkun from Thailand.

As of 30 June 2024, 20,731 Thai workers have been employed in the EPS in manufacturing industry and agriculture in all parts of the ROK.
