Divorce Registration
Criteria
Divorce registration at the Royal Thai Embassy in Seoul is available only for divorces between Thai nationals,
or between a Thai national and a foreign national. The registration is recognized as a legal divorce under Thai law.
1.Procedure for Divorce Registration
Case Where Both Parties Sign at the Royal Thai Embassy, Seoul
From 5 January 2026 onwards, the Royal Thai Embassy in Seoul will provide divorce registration services only to applicants who have made an advance online appointment.
The Thai national applicant is required to make the appointment in advance via https://cas.consular.go.th. Applicants may check or change their appointment date through https://cas.consular.go.th using the reservation number sent to the registered email address.
(Only one party is required to make the reservation; it is not necessary for both parties to register.)
Case Where Both Parties Sign at Different Registry Offices
In cases where one party wish to sign the divorce paper at different registry offices — for example, one party wish to signs at the local office in Thailand while the other party wish to sign at the Royal Thai Embassy, Seoul — the procedure differs from cases where both parties appear together at the Embassy.
In such cases, applicants cannot register for the service by themselves through the online system. Please contact Embassy staff directly for guidance via the contact channels for divorce registration stated in Item 4.
Divorce Registration Procedure Notice (Both Parties Sign At The Royal Thai Embassy, Seoul)
1. After successfully completing the appointment reservation, prior to visiting the Embassy, applicant is advised to submit photos or scanned copies of all required documents for divorce registration in advance for preliminary examination by the officer via email at [email protected].
2. Both parties must visit the Embassy together on the reserved date and time to sign and receive divorce certificate in person.
On the day of service, applicants must be accompanied by two witnesses. Each witness is required to present a valid Thai identification card along with 1 copy.
3. If all submitted documents are complete and correct, the applicants will be able to receive the divorce certificate on the same day, between 14:00 and 15:00 p.m.
Steps On The Registration Date
1. Please contact the Legalisation Section on the 2nd floor of the Consular Building to report your arrival and receive the application form from the officer.
2. Both parties must complete the application form together. Once completed, please submit the application form along with all required documents and the witnesses’ documents to the Legalisation Section officers.
3. The officer will issue the documents, both parties and the witnesses must sign the original divorce registration paper together in the presence of the officer.
4. The divorce certificate may be collected on the same day between 14:00 and 15:00 hours.
2. Required Documents for Divorce Registration
Applicants may receive the Divorce Registration application form from the legalisation officers at the Embassy
2.1 For Thai Nationals
1. Original Thai national ID card (valid or expired) and one copy
or
2. Original Thai passport (valid or expired) and one copy
3. Original Marriage Certificate (Kor ror.2) or Certificate of Marriage Registration (Kor ror.3)
(A certified copy may be used if the original is lost)
4. Certified copy of child’s birth certificate or Thai National ID card (if the couple has children together) – 1 copy per child
5. Certified copy of name/surname change certificate (if applicable)
6. Original court judgment and final court order – in case of court-ordered divorce
2.2 For South Korean Nationals
1. Original valid passport and one copy
2. Original English version of the Korean Household Registration Certificate (Yeongmun Jumin Deungnok Deungbon)
3. Original Marriage Certificate (Kor ror.2) or Certificate of Marriage Registration (Kor ror.3)
(A certified copy may be used if the original is lost)
4. Certified copy of child’s birth certificate or Thai National ID card (if the couple has children together) – 1 copy per child
5. Certified copy of name/surname change certificate (if applicable)
Notes
2.3 For Foreign Nationals Other Than Thai or South Korean
1. Original passport and one copy
2. Proof of residence in South Korea or country of birth
3. Original Marriage Certificate (Kor ror.2) or Certificate of Marriage Registration (Kor ror.3)
(A certified copy may be used if the original is lost)
4. Certified copy of child’s birth certificate or Thai National ID card (if the couple has children together) – 1 copy per child
5. Certified copy of name/surname change certificate (if applicable)
Note
- If the original documents are in English, no further translation is required.
- If the documents are in a language other than English, they must be translated into English and the translation must
be certified by the embassy or Ministry of Foreign Affairs of that country.
- All documents must be legalised by the respective country’s embassy in South Korea or by the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs of that country and by the Royal Thai Embassy/Consulate in that country.
(Apostille documents are not accepted)
- Only documents legalised within the past 3 months are accepted.
- Proof of residence documents may be an official document showing both full name and address of the applicant,
such as a house registration, lease contract, driver’s license, tax payer document, or utility bill.
