On 2 August 2024, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, had a bilateral meeting with H.E. Mr. Cho Tae-yul, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea (ROK), during his official visit to ROK.
Both ministers discussed strengthening cooperation in all aspects, including maintaining regular exchange of high-level visits. They agreed to enhance economic cooperation in future industries, especially in clean energy, green transition, digital technology and finance, and content industries, in which both sides welcomed the establishment of the Thailand-ROK Joint Cultural Committee during this visit. All proposed areas of cooperation are in line with the government’s IGNITE Thailand vision. In addition, both sides expressed readiness to work together, on labour and skills development, as well as facilitate tourism to further strengthen people-to-people exchange.
On regional cooperation, both ministers agreed to promote collaboration under ASEAN framework and Mekong - ROK Cooperation framework as Thailand is the current ASEAN - ROK country coordinator (2024 - 2027). Both also exchanged views on global and regional issues, such as the situation on the Korean Peninsula.
