Death Certificate


The Thai Embassy in Seoul can register the death and issue a death certificate for Thai nationals who pass away in the Republic of Korea (South Korea).

 

Steps for Death Registration (Thai Death Certificate)

(1) In case of death from illness

1.If relatives travel to South Korea to handle the deceased’s body

They can request a death certificate issued by the hospital directly. The following documents are required for death notification at the Embassy.

1.1 Death registration request form (Available at the Embassy)

1.2 Death certificate issued by the hospital

1.3 Cremation certificate issued by the crematorium (for cases of cremation in South Korea to return ashes to Thailand)

1.4 Copy of the deceased’s Thai ID card or Thai passport

1.5 Copy of the notifier’s Thai ID card or Thai passport

1.6 House registration or marriage certificate of the deceased

 

2. If the relatives are unable to travel to South Korea to handle the deceased’s body

They need to prepare the following documents for death notification at the Embassy.

2.1 Power of attorney for handling the body (funeral arrangements or body repatriation) from the deceased’s relatives

2.2 A certified copy of the ID card of the person giving the power of attorney

2.3 Death certificate issued by the hospital

2.4 Cremation certificate issued by the crematorium (for cases of cremation in South Korea to return ashes to Thailand)

2.5 Copy of the deceased’s Thai ID card or Thai passport

2.6 Copy of the notifier’s Thai ID card or Thai passport

Note: Documents 2.3 - 2.4 will be requested by the Embassy from the relevant authorities after receiving power of attorney from the deceased’s relatives.

 

(2) In case of death from an unknown cause, accidental death, or other cases

The local police station in South Korea will send a death notification of the Thai national to the Embassy,

which will then contact the deceased's family to arrange for the body collection.

1.If relatives travel to South Korea to handle the deceased’s body

They can contact the local police station directly. The following documents are required for death notification at the Embassy.

1.1 Death registration request form (Available at the Embassy)

1.2 Autopsy certificate issued by the local police station (Com Chi Pil Jeung)

1.3 Death certificate issued by the hospital

1.4 Cremation certificate issued by the crematorium (for cases of cremation in South Korea to return ashes to Thailand)

1.5 Copy of the deceased’s Thai ID card or Thai passport

1.6 Copy of the notifier’s Thai ID card or Thai passport

1.7 House registration or marriage certificate of the deceased

They need to prepare the following documents for death notification at the Embassy.

Note: Documents 2.3 - 2.5 will be requested by the Embassy from the relevant authorities after receiving power of attorney from the deceased’s relatives.

 

3.Fees No fee is charged.

 

4.Funeral Costs

4.1 For cremation in South Korea to return the ashes to Thailand, the cost is approximately 3,300,000 - 3,700,000 KRW

(excluding medical and body storage fees).

4.2 For sending the body back to Thailand, the cost is approximately 6,000,000 - 6,500,000 KRW

(excluding medical and body storage fees).

Note: Funeral costs may vary depending on individual circumstances and airline prices.

 

5.Other Important Information

1.If the deceased’s relatives grant the Embassy power of attorney to handle the funeral arrangements, the Embassy will contact

Hanguk Jang Red Dot Com (with Mr. Chun Geum Pyo as the funeral coordinator, phone: 010-8831-0554) or other companies that

handle international body repatriation. However, if the deceased’s relatives prefer to use another company for funeral arrangements,

The Embassy is ready to cooperate.
