The Prince Mahidol Award Foundation was established by the royal permission of His Majesty the King Bhumibol Adulyadej , in accordance with the proposal of Faculty of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital, in commemoration of the Centenary Birthday Anniversary of His Royal Highness Prince Mahidol of Songkla on January 1st, 1992. The Foundation was established in honour of His Royal Highness and in recognition of his exemplary contribution as “The Father of Modern Medicine and Public Health of Thailand.”
The Prince Mahidol Award, which is conferred to individual(s) or institution(s), is divided into two categories:
* These two categories were established in commemoration of His Royal Highness Prince Mahidol’s graduation with Doctor of Medicine (Cum Laude) and Certificate of Public Health.
In 2019, total of 66 nominations from 35 countries worldwide, 2 were selected to receive the Awards. Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn is the Representative of His Majesty the King, confers the Prince Mahidol Awards for the year 2019 in the Field of Medicine and Public Health at the Chakri Throne Hall in the Grand Palace.
This year’s Laureates in the Field of Medicine is Professor Dr. Ralf F.W. Bartenschlager, Ph.D., Federal Republic of Germany, and in the Field of Public Health is Professor David Mabey, M.D., United Kingdom.
