On 25 April 2025, H.E. Mr. Tanee Sangrat, Ambassador of Thailand to the Republic of Korea, held discussions with Mr. Deok-hyun Kim, Mayor of Yeoncheon, with the following key outcomes:
Ambassador Tanee and the Mayor agreed that Yeoncheon City, being a hub for smart agriculture, holds substantial potential as a learning and exchange centre for Thai students and youth.
Also, the Yeoncheon Mayor expressed his readiness to welcome Thai visitors interested in agricultural innovation, and Yeoncheon continues to have a high demand for foreign labour. Additionally, Ambassador Tanee informed the Mayor that the Embassy, in collaboration with the Thai Labor Office in Seoul, would seek to discuss the possibility of facilitating the importation of more Thai workers, particularly seasonal workers, as soon as possible.
Yeoncheon City, with an approximate population of 40,000, is located in the north of Seoul, Gyeonggi Province. It is renowned for its modern agricultural practices and outdoor tourism and has been designated by the central government as the third official site for the Korean War Veterans’ Cemetery, following Seoul and Busan.
