On 2 February 2026, H.E. Mr. Tanee Sangrat, Ambassador of Thailand to the ROK, and H.E. Georg Schmidt, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the ROK, had a meeting with Mr. Lee Mingeun, Mayor of Ansan City, to promote bilateral relations between Ansan City and Thailand and Germany, including people-to-people ties which serve as vital catalyst for expanding economic and cultural cooperation.

Both Ambassadors and delegations visited the Ansan Free Economic Zone site, designated by the ROK government in September 2025 as a center for advanced industries, a global R&D base for advanced robotics and manufacturing,  and a home to Hanyang University, the first university in the field of engineering, specialising in industry, technology, innovation, and research.

In addition, Ambassadors had meeting with Ms. Park Gyeong Hye, Director-General of the Ansan Foreign Resident Support Headquarters, to discuss issues related to the services for and protection of foreign residents residing in Ansan and the role of the Ansan Foreign Resident Support Headquarters.  Ambassador Tanee also share his thoughts on the possibility of organizing a Songkran festival and establishment of a Thai Town in Ansan.
