On 19 June 2025, H.E. Mr. Tanee Sangrat, Ambassador of Thailand to the ROK, held a discussion with Ms. Jullada Meejul, Director General of Thailand Professional Qualification Institute (TPQI), and her delegation on the recognition of competencies and qualifications of Thai workers in the ROK.
Mr. Bancha Yuenyongchongcharoen, Minister of the Embassy, Mrs. Sirirat Srichart, Labour Attaché, and Mr. Krist Mekkriengkrai, head of consular section also presented in the meeting.
DG Jullada briefed on TPQI’s mission and responsibilities, including TPQI’s initiative to promote Thai workers to use their work experiences in the ROK in various professions to apply for professional qualification certification at various levels, which will be beneficial to Thai workers who will return to work in Thailand or continue to work abroad in the future.
At present, TPQI and the Human Resources Development Service of Korea are working closely toward this initiative and planning to sign an Agreement on Mutual Recognition of Competencies and Qualifications for welder and bricklayer as a pilot project first by the end of 2025, as welders and bricklayers are in high demand in the ROK.
Ambassador Tanee proposed that TPQI to issue guidelines for Thai workers in the ROK to apply for the comparison of their professional qualifications after termination of the employment contract in the ROK. The Embassy will publicize this initiative to Thai workers.
