On 21 October 2021, Mr. Jayden Kang, Vice President of Kakao Entertainment and Head of Kakao Webtoon Global paid a visit to H.E. Ms. Rommanee Kananurak, Ambassador of Thailand to ROK to provide an overview of Kakao’s businesses and plans for expanding Kakao Webtoon services in Thailand. Kakao Webtoon’s application was released in Thailand in June 2021 and has now become the number one webtoon service in Thailand. Mr. Kang conveyed his firm belief in the talent of Thai content creators and Thailand’s potential as a leading country in Southeast Asia for further investment in the digital content industry. Kakao Webtoon therefore aims to expand its business in Thailand by identifying and empowering local content creators in order to boost the country’s creative economy. Most recently, Kakao Webtoon is working to adapt a popular Thai novel into webtoon, as well as exploring possibilities of turning best-selling Korean webtoon into a TV series for Thai audiences.
