On 6 August 2025, H.E. Mr. Tanee Sangrat, Ambassador of Thailand to the ROK, along with Mrs. Sirirat Srichart, Labor Attaché, and Mr. Krist Mekkriengkrai, Head of the Consular Section, attended the 2025 Employment Permit System (EPS) Conference in Seoul held at the Shilla Hotel. The conference was chaired by H.E. Mr. Kim Younghoon, Minister of Employment and Labour of the Republic of Korea.
Minister Kim emphasized the importance of foreign workers as a vital force contributing to the economic growth of the ROK. The Minister also stressed the significance of non-discrimination, human rights, training, accommodation, health, well-being, and workplace safety for foreign workers.
The Ambassador congratulated the Minister on his recent appointment and proposed that the Ministry of Employment and Labor of the ROK consider extending the job search period for laid-off workers, and enhancing workplace safety measures for Thai workers in the ROK. The Ambassador has visited many Thai workers who were seriously injured at work and believed that Korean workers as well as foreign workers from other countries would have faced similar challenges.
As of 30 June 2025, there were 28,172 Thai workers under the EPS system in the ROK, most of whom are employed in the manufacturing, construction, and agriculture sectors throughout the ROK.
