On 8 December 2021, H.E. Ms. Rommanee Kananurak, Ambassador of Thaliand to the ROK, along with ambassadors and chargé d'affaires of ASEAN countries and India to the ROK, attended the conference on “New Southern Policy Plus: Vision, Progress, and the Future” organized by the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP). The conference served as a platform for discussions on progress made under the New Southern Policy so far, and views from ASEAN countries and India on how to expand cooperation with the ROK under the Policy, especially under the new government. Ambassadors and chargé d'affaires of ASEAN countries expressed appreciation to the ROK for its continued assistance to ASEAN in tackling the COVID-19 situation, including through financial contributions to ASEAN-led mechanisms such as the COVID-19 ASEAN Response Fund and donation of vaccines and medical supplies. They also conveyed expectations to further develop the partnership in all areas, whether it be people-to-people and education, trade and investment, and public health in order to ensure sustainable economic and social recovery from the COVID-19 crisis.
