On 14 May 2026, H.E. Mr. Tanee Sangrat, Ambassador of Thailand to the ROK, met with Most Venerable Jinwoo, President of the the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, the largest Buddhist sect in Korea, to strengthen the relations between Thailand and the Republic of Korea through their shared Buddhist foundations and longstanding cultural heritage. The meeting covered three key areas: (1) A proposal for jointly organising an exhibition of and lecture on 32 mural paintings depicting the life of the Lord Buddha from the main chapel of Jogyesa Temple in Seoul — inspired by the celebrated 'Life of the Buddha' prints by Phra Devabhinimmitor — to be displayed at the Central Buddhist Museum of Jogyesa Temple during next year's Visakha Bucha (Vesak) observances, (2) A proposal to construct a pavilion of blended Thai-Korean architectural style as a symbol of friendship marking the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, and (3) Ambassador Tanee invited the President of the Jogye Order to visit Thailand for religious observances and to further deepen Buddhist ties between the two nations.
The Royal Thai Embassy, Seoul, wishes to express its sincere gratitude to Mr. Jung Won Ju, Chairman of Daewoo E&C and President of the Jogye Order Buddhist Association, for his support in making this meeting possible.
