On 7 August 2023, Mr. Yang O-Bong, President of Jeonbuk National university (JBNU), paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Witchu Vejjajiva, Ambassador of Thailand to the ROK, to introduce the University and its ongoing campaign to enter the GLOCAL University 30, which is a project established by the Ministry of Education of the ROK to strengthen regional universities by providing financial support for selected universities as well as supporting glocal universities to develop programs with global companies, linked to local economic priorities. Mr. Yang also requested support from the Embassy to help attract more Thai students to JBNU (there are currently 2 Thai students in JBNU), especially to enroll in the University’s 5 core programs – namely battery, semiconductors, smart farms, renewable energy, and defense industry. The Ambassador expressed readiness to help advertise the University, and advised that JBNU and Jeollabuk Province may consider coming up with incentive packages such as job training program with the private sector, and work-visa facilitation for foreign graduates, in order to attract more students from overseas to study and work in Jeollabuk.
