On 18 March 2026, H.E. Mr. Tanee Sangrat, Ambassador of Thailand to the ROK, welcomed Mr. Jae Wan Park, Chief of the Incheon Immigration Office, to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation on immigration matters and the protection of Thai nationals in the ROK.
Both sides exchanged views on key issues, including:
(1) the Embassy expressed its appreciation for, and commitment to further promoting, the voluntary departure program;
(2) the Korea Immigration provides an opportunity for apprehended workers to claim unpaid wages prior to deportation;
(3) the Embassy requested that the Korea Immigration exercise caution to ensure safety during enforcement operations against illegal employment;
(4) the Ambassador requested adjustments to the K-ETA application to enhance screening and reduce cases of entry denials for Thai nationals holding valid K-ETA; and
(5) both sides supported facilitating the transition of visa status from E-9 to E-7-4 to reduce visa overstays.
The Embassy reaffirmed its commitment to continue protecting, assisting, and promoting the welfare of Thai nationals in the ROK to the fullest extent.
